Well, well, well, look who’s at it again! Our dear friends at Shell are making headlines once more, and surprise, surprise, it’s for all the wrong reasons.
Pennsylvania’s Attorney General’s office is coming down on Shell Falcon Pipeline LP like a ton of bricks, slapping them with a whopping 13 misdemeanor charges for playing fast and loose with environmental laws. Ah, nothing like a little industrial waste to spice up your pipeline construction, right?
According to the authorities, Shell conveniently “forgot” to report a few teeny-tiny issues they encountered while drilling away in Washington, Allegheny, and Beaver counties. Oops! Looks like someone dropped the ball on that one.
But it gets better (or worse, depending on your perspective). You see, this drilling extravaganza wasn’t just your run-of-the-mill operation. Oh no, Shell managed to lose some drilling mud underground, and wouldn’t you know it, it ended up popping up in all sorts of “unintended locations.” How’s that for a magic trick?
And what’s Shell’s excuse for this environmental faux pas? Well, apparently, they were too busy to bother with real-time data logging devices on their drilling equipment. Who needs fancy gadgets when you’ve got a planet to pollute, right?
But fear not, fellow earthlings, Pennsylvania’s Attorney General Michelle Henry is here to save the day. She’s not mincing her words, slamming Shell for their blatant disregard of environmental laws. “Pennsylvanians have rights to clean air and water,” she declares, “and as we mark Earth Day this weekend, my office reaffirms its commitment to protecting those basic freedoms.” Hear, hear!
So, Shell, what’s the deal? Are you trying to win some sort of award for the most environmentally clueless corporation? Because if so, you’re definitely in the running. Until then, maybe it’s time to clean up your act and start taking those pesky environmental laws a little more seriously. Just a thought.
