Shell and Unilever: Partners in Profit, Supporters of Bloodshed

Posted by John Donovan July 5, 2023

In a stunning display of corporate callousness, Shell and Unilever have come under fire for their continued operations in Russia, even after the country’s invasion of Ukraine. These greedy giants seem to prioritize profits over principles, turning a blind eye to the blood money they accumulate.

Despite Shell’s pledge to withdraw from the Russian energy market, the company has shamelessly continued to trade Russian gas, making a mockery of its supposed commitment. Analysis from the campaign group Global Witness reveals that Shell was involved in nearly an eighth of Russia’s shipborne gas exports in 2022. Oleg Ustenko, an adviser to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, rightly accuses Shell of accepting “blood money” that directly supports Russia’s brutal aggression against Ukraine. read more

Shell’s Astonishing Strategy: Super-Sizing Profits and Middle Fingers to the Planet

Posted by John Donovan 14 June 2023

In a stunning display of corporate arrogance, Shell has decided to throw caution to the wind and abandon any pretense of caring about the environment. The oil giant’s latest move? Scrap their plan to reduce oil production, a feeble attempt to appear eco-friendly, and instead maintain their current levels of pollution until the end of the decade. How generous of them.

Shell CEO, Wael Sawan, must be thrilled with himself as he disregards the urgent need to combat climate change. While other oil companies are at least paying lip service to environmental responsibility, Shell boldly proclaims that they have already met their reduction targets through clever asset sales. Who needs real action when you can just shuffle numbers around?

But don’t worry, folks, Shell still wants you to believe they care about the planet. They plan to invest a measly $10-15 billion in low-carbon energy solutions like biofuels and hydrogen. It’s a classic case of greenwashing, as they quietly retreat from wind and solar projects that could make a real difference. read more

Shell’s Potential Move to New York: A Brilliant Strategy to Boost Profits and Evade Environmental Scrutiny

By relocating to the US, Shell can conveniently avoid those green activists who dare to question their saintly practices.

Posted by John Donovan 12 June 2023

Shell, the beloved and environmentally conscious oil giant, is considering a radical move that has brokers buzzing with excitement. Can you imagine the audacity of Shell leaving the majestic streets of London? Unthinkable, right? But hey, they already surprised us once when they left The Hague for the UK back in 2021. So, who knows what their next unpredictable move will be?

Forget about green policies, shareholder satisfaction, or investing in new oilfields. According to some brilliant minds, the new CEO Wael Sawan must tackle a far more critical issue at Wednesday’s capital markets day: location. Yes, you heard that right. The location of Shell’s headquarters seems to be the pinnacle of concern for these innovative brokers. read more

The Groningen Scandal: Shell and its partners, unleashed devastating Earthquakes in Pursuit of Profits

The seismic activity caused by this relentless extraction has led to the destruction of over 85,000 homes, leaving countless families displaced and their lives shattered.

Posted 10 June 2023 by John Donovan

The Groningen gasfield, boasting a colossal 2.8 billion cubic meters, stands as a testament to the insatiable greed of Shell and Exxon Mobil, the companies jointly responsible for its management. With the extraction operations by their joint venture company NAM spanning over 60 years, these oil giants have raked in huge profits, leaving a trail of destruction and misery in their wake.

In a stunning display of disregard for human safety and the environment, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte now faces mounting calls for his resignation as evidence emerges of his government’s decision for NAM to proceed with gas extraction in the northern Netherlands, fully aware that it would result in devastating earthquakes.

Despite mounting evidence of the cataclysmic consequences, Rutte’s government shamelessly continued to exploit the gasfield, leaving the people of the region to suffer the consequences. The seismic activity caused by this relentless extraction has led to the destruction of over 85,000 homes, leaving countless families displaced and their lives shattered.

Even in the face of overwhelming evidence and pleas from experts, Rutte stubbornly defended his government’s actions. It was only in 2018, when a monstrous earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale struck the town of Huizinge, that Rutte finally acknowledged the magnitude of the problem. But his belated realization does little to absolve him of the years of lies and disregard for the rights and safety of the people of Groningen. read more

Nigeria: New government must ensure Shell’s sale of its Niger Delta oil business does not worsen human rights abuses

By Amnesty International: 26 May 2023

Nigeria’s new government, which will be sworn in on 29 May, must ensure that Shell’s planned sale of its operations in the Niger Delta does not lead to a further deterioration in human rights in a region blighted by decades of oil pollution.

Amnesty International has documented grievous and enduring human rights abuses resulting from oil contamination in the area, where Shell has operated since the 1950s. Amnesty International is concerned that the proposed sale will deny people already harmed access to adequate remedy, and potentially expose many more to future abuses.

A new report issued today, Tainted Sale?, recommends a series of safeguards and actions to help protect the rights of people potentially affected by Shell’s planned disposal of its onshore oil interests in the Niger Delta, reportedly for about US$3 billion. read more

Shell Energy’s Failing Business Draws Feeble Interest from Rivals

Shell Energy’s Failing Business Draws Feeble Interest from Rivals

Posted by John Donovan:  May 12, 2023

In a desperate attempt to salvage the sinking ship that is Shell Energy, three of Britain’s largest power providers have reluctantly shown some interest in acquiring the oil giant’s floundering UK retail business, which has been drowning in poor returns for quite some time, according to sources close to the process.

Octopus Energy and Ovo have submitted bids for Shell Energy, but let’s be honest, it’s more like vultures circling their dying prey. British Gas, the retail arm of Centrica, also threw in a half-hearted bid, although it remains uncertain whether they have any genuine interest. read more

Shell Prelude Floating FLNG Barge: A Potentially Catastrophic Failure of Safety Standards

Shell Prelude Floating FLNG Barge: A Potentially Catastrophic Failure of Safety Standards

Posted by John Donovan: 12 May 2023

In yet another display of negligence and incompetence, Shell has shamefully suspended production at its Prelude floating LNG facility off Western Australia. The reason? A “trip.” How convenient that Shell conveniently brushes off this serious incident with such a casual technical term, downplaying the gravity of the situation.

Shell’s spokesperson, undoubtedly well-trained in corporate spin, reassures the public that they are working “methodically” to restart production, with safety apparently being their primary concern. But let’s not forget that this is the same company that has repeatedly demonstrated a reckless disregard for safety, as evidenced by the litany of incidents that have plagued the Prelude FLNG facility. read more

Shell’s Shameless Greed: £8 Billion Profit Shows Disregard for Climate Crisis and People’s Well-Being

By John Donovan

Shell, the oil giant partly responsible for environmental destruction and climate change, has shamelessly announced a profit of nearly £8 billion for the first quarter of the year, revealing its insatiable greed for profits. This further highlights the company’s utter disregard for the cost-of-living crisis that their exorbitant fuel prices have caused. Even with oil prices down from their peaks touched after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Shell still made money at an obscene rate, almost £1,000 a second or £58,000 per minute. read more
