OUTGOING Energy Minister Pat Carey has given oil company Shell the go-ahead to build the final section of the Corrib Gas pipeline.
Mr Carey signed an order allowing Shell to begin construction of the final section of the pipeline on Friday, election day, and also approved changes to the project.
A foreshore licence needed to complete the regulatory process and allow work to begin is still needed from the Department of the Environment. It is unlikely to be granted before the next Government takes office on March 9.
