Hakluyt Spy Firm Cyber Offshoot

By John Donovan

I note that the London-based corporate intelligence spy firm Hakluyt closely associated with the dark side of *Shell, including Shell Corporate Affairs Security and Shell Global Security, also operates an expanding offshoot called Hakluyt Cyber Limited. It is unclear whether the offshoot engages in offensive or defensive operations on behalf of its corporate clients, such as Shell. Hakluyt Cyber has been described as a blue chip company.

It is the case that cyber attacks against this website have been investigated by a specialist cyber unit of the UK police. The perpetrators were not caught. By coincidence or otherwise, the attacks ceased briefly each time I brought what was going on to the attention of the Company Secretary of Royal Dutch Shell Plc.

Christopher James, co-founder of Hakluyt & Company

We had already engaged in some extraordinary communications with Christopher James, the former SAS/MI6 veteran who co-founded Hakluyt & Company Ltd. His reply trying to distance his spy firm from Shell and its admitted undercover activities against us was drafted by a senior lawyer Sir Anthony Hammond KCB QC in strange circumstances. It left us even more suspicious than we were before contacting Mr. James.

He seems to have used the Shell connection when it suited Hakluyt.

In an email purportedly sent by him some years ago to Jeff Skilling, the then CEO of Enron, he mentioned Hakluyt’s close relationship with Philip J. Carroll the retired CEO of Shell Oil Company.

Shell subsequently found itself the subject of a front page Sunday Times article revealing the sinister activities undertaken by a Hakluyt agent on behalf of Shell against Shell’s perceived enemies.

*Titled Shell directors were directors and major shareholders in Hakluyt & Co Ltd. Even more significantly, Sir Peter Holmes was President of the Hakluyt Foundation and Sir William Purves was Chairman of Hakluyt & Co Ltd.
