Shell continues to fawn over corrupt Brunei despot

The Sultan of Brunei shocked the world by introducing harsh sharia penal code. Under the code limbs can be severed for theft and people stoned to death

Shell’s grovelling treatment towards the evil Sultan of Brunei continues with the announcement: “Brunei Shell Petroleum creates special book to commemorate His Majesty’s Golden Jubilee”

Below in italics is a three paragraph extract from the fawning Shell propaganda fed to the Borneo Bulletin. Note the many roles of his royal greatness. He must be a busy bee. A veritable one man government. Guess it avoids sharing out the bribes.

“The People’s Sultan: Leading A Legacy was a labour of love, and all the work was done in Brunei Darussalam, showcasing the true capability of Bruneian talent at its very best,” said Dr Ceri M Powell, Managing Director of BSP.

The book chronicles His Majesty through the years and highlights the many achievements of the monarch, set against the backdrop of the growth of Brunei Shell Petroleum Company.

It illustrates His Majesty’s impactful leadership, ruling the country justly while assuming many other roles; the Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Royal Dutch Shell Chief Executive Ben van Beurden had “an audience” with “His Majesty” in November 2014. Perhaps arranging another bung?

Shell’s fawning over the corrupt Sultan has in fact been going on for many years.

In 2004, the local units of oil giant donated 500,000 Brunei dollars towards lavish royal wedding ceremonies. The contribution from Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP), Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd (BLNG), Brunei Shell Tankers Sdn Bhd (BST) and Brunei Shell Marketing Co Sdn Bhd (BSM) helped to fund a fireworks display and a banquet fit for a corrupt despotic Sultan.

He and his equally distasteful brother are regularly the subject of salacious news stories involving seedy scandals and controversies e.g.

Shell has a habit of supporting evil dictators, including Adolf Hitler, Sani Abacha and Gaddafi, yet claims to be an ethical company. Who does Shell think it is kidding?
