Ukraine has accused energy giant Shell of continuing to “bankroll Putin’s war machine” buy buying oil through an “accounting trick.”
In an angry letter sent to the oil company’s boss, Kyiv branded it “deplorable” that firm was still buying fuel linked to the Kremlin indirectly.
According to the Telegraph, despite a commitment to stop purchasing energy, Shell considers refined oil products as not being Russian if less than half of the blend is from the country.

A letter sent by Kyiv to Shell boss Ben van Beurden said it was “deplorable” that companies are continuing to “bankroll Putin’s war machine” amid concerns Russian oil is still being bought through backdoor routes.
The FTSE 100 oil major committed to stop purchasing Russian crude in the spot market and said it is legally obliged to accept oil deliveries from contracts sealed before the invasion of Ukraine. However, it defines refined oil products, such as diesel, as not being of Russian origin if less than 50pc of the blend is from the country.

terrible broadband, terrible customer service
Got broadband through Shell. Speeds are far less than what was advertised, the internet routinely cuts out for extended periods of time, and is generally barely usable. Waited more than a month for a response to email. Customer services are mysteriously always “experiencing a higher number of requests than normal right now” when I want to talk to them.

Shell in talks to offload Russian business to China
Shell is said to be turning to Beijing as it looks to offload its stake in a major Russian gas project.
The FTSE 100 energy giant is in joint talks with Chinese state-run firms Cnooc, CNPC and Sinopec over its 27.5pc holding in the Sakhalin-2 liquefied natural gas venture.
The discussions include the potential sale of the stake to one, two or all three of the Chinese companies, though Shell is said to be open to talks with other potential buyers outside China.

Shell reports drop in emissions, urges vote against ‘unrealistic’ targets
Overall emissions fell from over 1.6 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2016 to less than 1.4 billion tonnes last year, Shell said.
Shell said it has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 16% over the last five years and promised to lead society in its decarbonisation efforts.
The business also urged shareholders to vote against more ambitious climate proposals which it says set “unrealistic” targets.

Apr 20, 2022Shell has started to withdraw staff from its joint ventures with Russia’s Gazprom as it moves forward with plans to exit investments in response to the war in Ukraine.
Dozens of Shell employees on temporary assignment at the Sakhalin-2 liquefied natural gas export project in Russia were removed over the weekend to be relocated back to other offices, according to people with knowledge of the matter. Operations at the facility are unlikely to be affected by the move, the people said.

Shell says aims to hit carbon reduction goals regardless of others

LONDON (Reuters) – Shell aims to meet its goal to cut carbon emissions to net zero by the middle of the century regardless of progress by customers and broader society, its chief executive said on Thursday.
Shell previously said that it aims to become a net-zero greenhouse gas emissions business by 2050 “in step with society and our customers”.
In a report published on Thursday on the company’s carbon reduction performance last year, Chief Executive Officer Ben van Beurden said that “from today, our target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 is no longer conditional on society’s progress”.

Six people have been arrested after Extinction Rebellion activists climbed on top of an oil tanker in central London.
The climate group said three people climbed on top of the Shell tanker, holding a banner which said “end fossil filth” in Bayswater Road on Saturday morning.
Extinction Rebellion said Olympic gold medal-winning canoeist Etienne Stott and fellow British Olympian Laura Baldwin were among those demonstrating.

I was moved over to Shell when my last…
I was moved over to Shell when my last energy company went out of business. I then had to wait for a couple of months until they got around to talking to me. I then had both Electric and Gas pre-payment meters fitted. I got my electric card within 2 days but, after 5 months, I am still waiting for my gas card. My smart meter does not work and they are demanding that I pay them an estimated bill of £290.00. I have spoken to them and explained that I cannot possibly owe anything like the amount they are demanding and I also asked why my Gas card had not been sent to me. However, they are not interested in the mistake they have made, they are only interested in forcing me to pay £290.00 which they know is simply extortionate. This is a prime example of how Shell energy is extorting money from vulnerable and elderly customers. Is it any wonder how their FAT CAT GREEDY owners and management are able to share billions in profit while ordinary folk has to choose between food and heating? Please boycott SHELL ENERGY and stop these greed-ridden fat cats from getting fatter and wealthier while ordinary people starve and freeze in the dark!!!

Extinction Rebellion protest: Activists enter Shell HQ and glue themselves to government buildings

Activists have glued themselves to Shell HQ and a UK government building in protests to demand action on the climate crisis as Extinction Rebellion continued its week of protests in London.
Demonstrators entered the oil and gas company offices on Wednesday afternoon, with some using glue to stick themselves to the reception desk and the ground outside.

Members of the group gained access to the building, on London’s Southbank, this afternoon and are occupying it and telling passing workers to change careers.
The protest is part of Extinction Rebellion’s “April rebellion”, which began on Saturday and has included mass roadblocks in the capital.
Speaking on a livestream from inside the building, one activist said: “We’re here to ask you to really think about what you’re doing. Do you really want to be part of this planetary destruction?”

: Thanks to Wrath for the clarification. I recall a lot of competent and committed people at BG Group, I also recall a toxic culture among those aspiring to climb the leadership “greasy pole” at all costs. If Mr Gould’s disparaging comments were not aimed at the latter group, it’s no surprise the meeting ended on a low note. These are the people that set targets, but if they can’t perceive how to deliver, someone (not them) has to be held to account. Seems like the pressure was being felt regarding Queensland Curtis LNG and the toxic ‘blame culture’ was in full-swing. I understood the cost overrun on this project was in the region of £3.3bn, which is surprising as their General Counsel at the time had written the highly regarded book ‘Project Finance’. It must have been left behind in TVP in preference for “back-end loading”.
: In response to Bogus Group's enquiry. The reference to Contractors being given 'equal' status to Employees refers to a speech given by Andrew Gould, then Executive Chairman of BG Group, at a Townhall meeting in the BG cafeteria in the Hutton Building, Thames Valley Business Park, in Q4 2014. At that Townhall meeting Mr Gould, during his speech to the assembled staff, made many references to 'you' (meaning BG Group Staff) failing to meet targets. (A Freudian slip, perhaps, given his ambition for a knighthood?). Eventually, a senior staff member in the audience corrected Mr Gould and said that he (the senior staff member) would feel happier if Mr Gould used the pronoun 'we' instead of 'you', at which point Mr Gould accepted the criticism and corrected himself. During that speech, Mr Gould also said that it was vital that BG Group meet their targets, especially first export of QC LNG coalbed methane to LNG, by year end. In order to achieve this he said that BG Group Contractors would have 'equal' status to BG Group Employees i.e. 'all hands to the pumps'. That meeting was recorded. Shell makes $70bn BG offer (oedigital.com) It was at the end of that meeting, that Sami Iskander, then Chief Operating Officer, stood up and to whoever would listen as they 'fled' the cafeteria with their ears burning made the statement that BG Group, the previous year (?) had spent £200MM assuring work which later cost the company £2Bn because it was wrong.
: Would like to hear more on the thread of these interesting comments. Contractors were not always on ‘equal status’, particularly when it came to safety. In the BG Group 2010 annual report, Chapman’s statement that contractor safety would be a particular focus in 2011, seemed to infer that contractor performance was the issue, however, BG Group were ultimately responsible for those at the worksites, including contractors. In 2012, his “deep regret” of the unacceptable safety performance deterioration in 2011, would appear to indicate the “particular focus” was misconceived.
: Andrew Gould, former Executive Chairman of the failed BG Group, whose motives were questionable, would be well reminded that putting contractors on equal status as company employees in order to meet 'stretch' targets is in direct conflict with the 'Constitutions' of the various 'Bodies Corporate', despite alignment through 'bridging' documents.
: Technical safety across the board has suffered a similar mindset... "as long as it doesn't blow-up on my watch, it's <>." the new SEAM organization has made it abundantly clear, that safety has to be in "balance with business drivers of production and affordability." When it eventually goes boom, it will be blamed on TSE not the folks who are sweeping the concerns under the rug. the new emperors have no clothes!
: Subsurface Technical Staff at Shell who previously worked for BG Group would be well advised to remember that reserves should not be booked on subjective technical workflows and furthermore that both the technical workflows used in calculating reserves and their results should be reproducible by the Auditors. The BG philosophy of 'it's alright as long as the oil and/or gas is flowing out of the ground and we don't know where it is coming from' is irresponsible, short sighted and to the detriment of Shell's shareholders. This attitude should be dropped pronto!

: RE: Nigerian oil export terminal had theft line into sea for 9 years Sometimes I think I have seen it all and then this comes along Nigeria is simply doomed with all the corruption. Take it from me, this is a major operation to fix. So the top brass must have been involved. Half or more of the population is scratching a living in miserable circumstances, there is no more rule of law and these gangsters lay a pipeline from a terminal and steal oil. Simply beyond what I can imagine.
: They cut off my 87 year old moms phone. This isn't just a phone for people of that age its and essential lifeline. After spending an hour on hold I eventually got through to the customer service department. They said a bill hadn't been sent because of billing issues. That's why it wasn't paid. So, I settled the bill over the phone. The following day the service was resumed and a demand for the money paid over the phone was sent to her house. How incompetent are these people. I spent another hour on hold. No reply to the call at all this time. No response to my emailed complaint. Obviously I now have to find another provider. But a lot of stress for my mother. DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE. They are the worst of the worst. Date of experience: 10 September 2022
