Octopus Energy’s Tentacular Expansion: Coventry Beckons as Shell Energy Takeover Looms

Posted by John Donovan: 23 November 2023

Ah, the tentacles of Octopus Energy are extending into Coventry, wrapping around a shiny new office space in the sparkly Friargate Two building. You know, the one playing peek-a-boo with Coventry’s railway station. They plan to start with about 150 staff, but who’s counting?

Now, here’s the juicy bit: Octopus is eyeing up Shell Energy like it’s the last piece of sushi on the plate. They’re whispering about a takeover bid simmering on the stove,  just waiting for Ofgem’s nod of approval. Shell Energy, with its army of employees over at Westwood Business Park, might soon be singing under the Octopus’s banner.

But hold your horses! Octopus is playing it coy about the fate of Shell Energy’s staff. “Wait and see,” they say, as they hint at maybe, possibly, stretching their tentacles further into Friargate Two. Stay tuned for the next episode of “As the Octopus Turns”!
