By John Donovan
A Chronological Register of External References to Royaldutchshellplc.com
For more than two decades, Shell has had an unusual problem: a corporate critic’s website that refused to disappear.
This page is intended as a chronological register of externally published articles, reports, broadcasts, books, legal references and public records that have referred to, cited, linked to, or relied upon material from Royaldutchshellplc.com and related Donovan/Shell archive websites.
It is not presented as a complete internet-wide backlink audit. No ordinary search can capture every historic backlink, syndicated article, dead link, paywalled reference, PDF citation, archive copy, legal document, broadcast transcript or search-indexed fragment. Many original links from 2005 onwards have disappeared, moved behind paywalls, been redirected, or been preserved only in archived copies.
What this register does show is something more important: the Donovan/Shell archive has repeatedly entered the wider public record. It has been referenced by major news organisations, legal commentators, campaign groups, parliamentary material, academic sources, books, broadcast media and online forums.
The list includes references from, among others, the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Reuters, Dow Jones, Bloomberg, The Times, The Guardian, The Observer, Daily Mail, CNBC, Forbes, Associated Press, Channel 4, openDemocracy, parliamentary sources, legal publications, and campaign organisations.
Some entries concern Shell’s failed attempt to seize the domain name royaldutchshellplc.com. Others concern Shell leaks, job cuts, Sakhalin II, Shell’s internal data breaches, the Corrib gas controversy, the Pieter Schelte naming campaign, Ogoni litigation, OPL 245, vaccine-mandate leaks, Shell safety concerns and the modern AI-era reputational impact of the Donovan archive.
Where possible, links are provided to original publisher pages. Where those original pages are dead, paywalled or no longer easily accessible, links may point to archive copies, PDF copies, mirrored versions or relevant Donovan archive pages preserving the reference.
This is therefore best understood as a working public register: a record of how a family-run website, created after Shell’s own corporate name change, became a persistent source, irritant, archive and reputational problem for one of the largest energy companies in the world.
Site-wide disclaimer also applies.

Editorial Note
This register will be updated as further references are identified and checked. Because many historic media links have expired, disappeared or moved behind paywalls, some entries necessarily rely on archived copies or contemporaneous Donovan archive records preserving the publication details.
The overall pattern is nevertheless clear. From the 2005 WIPO domain-name dispute onwards, royaldutchshellplc.com and related archive sites have repeatedly been cited, named or relied upon by external publishers, campaigners, lawyers, authors, parliamentarians, journalists and, more recently, AI-driven commentary platforms.
For Shell, previously known as Forthdeal Limited, subsequently as Royal Dutch Shell plc, and now hiding in plain sight as Shell plc after ditching the disgraced Royal Dutch moniker, the archive remains a long-running digital headache that neither time, silence, nor corporate rebranding has managed to erase.
