Gemini replies to the prompt: What are the Shell Leaks Files?Whistleblower & Insider Contributions
Disgruntled or concerned Shell employees routinely leaked internal emails, project reports, and memo drafts directly to John Donovan.
High-profile examples include an internal email from incoming CEO Peter Voser published the day it was written, and confidential internal memos detailing executive strategy discussions (such as proposed COVID-19 vaccine mandates and potential employee terminations in 2021).
Global Employee Directory Leak (2010)
A notable incident occurred when a massive internal directory containing the names, internal phone numbers, and contact details of over 170,000 Shell employees and contractors worldwide was leaked to environmental campaign groups and Donovan’s website by disaffected workers.
Shell’s Counter-Measures & Surveillance Records
Through Data Protection Subject Access Requests (SARs) and court disclosure, Donovan obtained internal communications showing that Shell had established an internal “counter-measures team” and monitored Donovan’s campaign and websites.
Accidental Disclosures
The archive also includes misdirected internal emails—such as a key 2004 email sent accidentally by Shell senior legal counsel Richard Wiseman to the Donovans instead of Shell’s executive board.
Operational Scandals
Documents related to contentious operations and controversies, including the Sakhalin-II gas project in Russia, the Groningen gas field earthquakes in the Netherlands, and Shell’s historical operations in Nigeria.
Many major financial news outlets—including Reuters, The Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Telegraph—have used documents from Donovan’s leaked archive as primary source material for investigative reporting into Shell’s business ethics, governance, and internal corporate strategy.
These files have been accumulated, published, and cataloged over several decades primarily by corporate activist John Donovan (along with his late father, Alfred Donovan) on their website royaldutchshellplc.com.

Broadband Service is Appalling
I ordered shell energy broadband on nov 2. I was promised connection the following week. They initiated the direct debit. I called the following week and was told router would arrive on 13 and service would go live on 17. No further email or communication until 20 when I was told service would start on 30th. Spent 10 minutes waiting on phone line and spoke to a polite assistant who was absolutely useless in solving my problem. Avoid this unprofessional and chaotic… Read more

Extremely slow broadband for 10 months, not fixed. I have had slow broadband well below the guaranteed speed for 10 months and Shell Energy have not been able to fix it. They have tried sending about 4 or 5 engineers but have not fixed the problem. Gurps, who I have been dealing with most recently, has been friendly and polite, alth… Read more
The worst ever
I used shell broadband. It was by far the worst broadband provider ever! The internet did not work most days. I had their super fast broadband and it dropped out constantly. Watching a movie was awful with the constant buffering. Customer support was super slow. Now their going to charge me for the useless router which I have sent back.
